Micromax to launch affordable Bharat series with 4G VoLTE capability

Indian OEM Micromax will be launching two budget phones named Bharat 1 and Bharat 2 with 4G VoLTE capability. Bharat 1 is a feature phone running on Java Operating system; whereas, Bharat 2 is a Google-approved Android smartphone. They are being manufactured in India and priced at Rs. 1999 and Rs 2999 respectively.
Bharat 1 will be the cheapest VoLTE enabled device if it gets released before Jio's rumored Rs 999 VoLTE device. Bharat 3 is also on the cards. However, additional details on this phone are not known at the time of writing this article.

"With of the operators giving free voice calls over 4G VoLTE, we’re seeing a spike in demand for 4G VoLTE feature phones. On the other hand, Bharat 2 is going to totally disrupt the entry-level smartphone segment,” said Shubhajit Sen, Chief Marketing Officer of Micromax, to ET.

Micromax is aiming to sell 5-6 million Bharat series devices in next six months, which may propel company's market share to a new high. This launch is coming at a time when the company is bleeding market share to Chinese firms and Indian counterparts. Also, its subsidiary YU is on the verge of extinction, which is aggravating the agonies of the company.
It is also worth noting that Micromax has recently been pushed to the fifth spot in top five smartphone manufacturers rankings in India. Oppo and Lyf forayed into the list. We have to wait and see if Bharat series can turn around fortunes for the company and help it to regain its lost glory.
