Gionee A1 with 16MP selfie camera unveiled in India
Gionee A1: Rs 21,999
The Gionee A1 has been officially announced for the Indian markets today, however, the price of the phone is not unveiled. The handset will be available for pre-booking from March 31 onwards, and that's the only confirmation that has come out till now.
In terms of hardware, there’s very little that we can talk about that’s not been discussed already. But to recap, the highlight here is the massive 16MP front facing camera, allowing you to take some high-quality wide-angle selfies. Barring this, the A1 comes with a 5.5-inch display, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of expandable storage, as well as Mediatek’s Helio P10 octa-core processor, and Android 7.0 Nougat.
Those concerned about the battery will be pleased to know that the A1 comes with a massive 4,010mAh unit on board, allowing you to eke out a full day’s usage with a single charge. At just 8.5mm, it’s a pretty slim device as well. As you can see from the official pictures, the handset comes with pretty slim bezels, making it quite an attractive piece of hardware to own.
Gionee’s handsets have never been easy on the wallets and the A1 is no exception. Despite the pricing, the A1 will surely strike a chord with the masses in India, especially given its selfie credentials. Despite the fact that the handset comes with a front home button, Gionee has decided to attach the fingerprint sensor on the back. This seems like an odd design decision, but we’re sure the company had its reasons to take this route.

Storage: 64GB (expandable via microSD)
OS: Android 7.0 Nougat with AMIGO OS 4.0

The rumoured price of the Gionee A1 is said to be 21,999, but the company may have other plans before announcing the official price. Until then, we have to wait and see how the company strategises the pricing of the smartphone.
